Over 70% of
hut dwellers of urban cities are migrants from rural villages. Rural poverty and lack of income source lead them migrate to
urban cities. Their poverty lets them live in unauthorized settlements as they cannot afford rented houses. It is responsibility
of the Governments to generate employment opportunities to rural population to avoid excessive migration to urban cities.
In the country like India
or other developing countries, migration will grow as long as do not have opportunities in their own villages. Delhi
hut dwellers are paying high cost for their poverty. In summer, 2006 Government’s bulldozers razed their houses leaving
them and their children face cruel heat of 45 degree Celsius. View video clip for more information. Razing huts to beautify
state is not a solution rather is crime without providing alternate to settle. Every
human in the democratic country has rights to live. Demolishing Poor’s huts is indication of cruelty of Government. Without giving alternate land to its citizens to settle down is violation of human
rights.
