Is Child Helping Parents After School Time a "child Labor"? :- Poverty stricken father seeking child’s help in performing traditional Rajasthani music and dance, is helping hand to father to meet house hold expenses and sending child to education. Child’s father explains as they are very poor with the burden to marry-away 6 sisters and feed family. He performs traditional dance and music in restaurants and traditional celebrations. Normally, he earns 40 to 50 US$ a week, he says “Is not enough to feed family. What to do when I do have education and knowledge of other earning means.” This child goes to school in the morning studying in 2nd standard, after school study and little homework participates in parent’s profession, Is this called a child labor? ILO defines “Not all work done by children should be classified as child labor that is to be targeted for elimination. Children’s or adolescents’ participation in work that does not affect their health and personal development or interfere with their schooling is generally regarded as being something positive. This includes activities such as helping their parents around the home, assisting in a family business or earning pocket money outside school hours and during school holidays. These kinds of activities contribute to children’s development and to the welfare of their families; they provide them with skills and experience, and help to prepare them to be productive members of society during their adult life.”

Child weavers / labour and the poverty:- This short film shows how families use their children to earn for the family. A girl child in this video clip adds nearly 55 cents per day to her family income. How can we expect a family to send children to schools for education when their earning is less than a dollor per day? Simply bringing resolution or laws is not enough to eliminate child labour rather the planners should work the methods and policies to generate rural employment that generates enough income to spend and send child for study. Simply saying child labour as crime is easy and poetic. We need to understand the darkness behind this activities. We need to win over the reasons behind parents seeking their children for income.

Are even unable to send their children to schools rather they feel comfortable carrying children with them from street to street to beg and dance. Child labor (roadside entertainers):- This video clip was taken in summer hot of 40 degree Celsius from the road side of New Delhi, India. The video shows how these children work hard to entertain public for mere 1 cent to 5 cents in busy traffic roads of urban New Delhi. They perform circus and gymnastic actions in dangerously busy roads during red signal controlling traffic. These children claim to have migrated from Madhya Pradesh without anyone's support. Their parents too are the entertainers in same field. The parents are extremely poor that they are unable to support own children. These children explain in this video that their own native place does not have water, school and source livelihood forced them to come to Delhi the capital of India

Nearly 90% (in my view) of child laborers are rural children. Most migrate to cities and end up begging, prostitution, domestic helpers, or other odd jobs. Child labour issue can not be dealt until and unless concerned organizations influence appropriate Governments to reevaluate the economic policies and rural economic growth. Till now rural economy is only known as agricultural economy and never emphasized on add-on value products. Governments have to consider growing and generating rural employment. Target set for 2015 to eradicate poverty may not be achieved until we understand roots and real causes of poverty. Why child goes to work? This situation is most urgent to be taken care!!! Child goes to work only when parents allow. And why parents seek own child's support to sustain home economy? This is what in my opinion Governments need to understand and bring policies in accordance.
