Woman can decorate a house better than man
Dowry system was introduced in many civilizations; this was
introduced to share the expenses for settling new house. In Athens the absence of dowry would call into question the legitimacy
of the marriage. Kyrios (Guardian) was required to provide dowry to bride. In Ancient Rome it was responsibility of the parents
to provide dowry to the bride, which was managed by her husband after the
marriage. In ancient Egypt during Pharaohs there was no sign of dowry as woman had right to inherit parents property along
with brother. But When Greeks then Roman took control of Egypt signs of dowry began to appear.
8th century BC pre-Roman Hammurabi code of conduct parents were responsible for giving dowry. In the Rig-
Veda inscription that cows and gifts given by the father of the bride to the daughter accompanied the brides procession [Rg
Ved X.85]. Dowry system was applicable in all civilizations and religions that did not permit inheritance right for property
of parents to daughter and son equally. Dowry system has become greed to many parents of sons despite the fact that many Governments
have regulated the equal rights for girls in parents property. At least a dozen women die each day in kitchen fire, some are
harassed and persecuted. Some wives commit suicide and due to extreme sufferings and mental tortures for not paying repeated
demands of dowries. Only a few cases are brought to justice. Son has become a salable property that parents sell at premium.
Aggravation of dowry situation is, when mother-in-law persuades son to ill treat and mayhem to pressure wife to bring more
dowry. Rather Mother-in-laws role has more importance in creating this situation, mother-in-law had also gone through wifes
position in her past time and same wife, today being tortured, will repeat the same with future sons wife. What I feel as
there is a woman psychology behind this (1) Mother-in-law has unmarried daughter to be married away. (2) An ego-clash for
control (one is on the queens seat and the other to invade queen seat) in the house or change in sons attitude after new womans
arrival thus two women (two grinding stones) and son in between two (grain) is ready to be flour. Unluckily, hate of wife
and mother-in-law is everywhere in the world. Also in modern European and American community this exists, wives are lucky
in this society pair can live separately but in Asian societies mother is dignity due to religious effect and the affection
he gets through out the life, so mother is above of all. Thus the new comer looses war.
Best education is the best dowry. Parents are advised to educate daughters the best as the time has changed and it is time that education has more value in the employment market and fields have been opened for women to become entrepreneurs. Amount of dowry may be invested for her secured future.
